Conducts LiDAR Workshop
Sterling, VA – As part of the VARGIS
plan for customer support and knowledge transfer, VARGIS LLC conducted
a public workshop
on September 1, 2005 that focused on LiDAR covering Montgomery
County, VA including the Towns of Christiansburg and Blacksburg.
The workshop topics provided to the municipalities within the area
included providing further understanding of what LiDAR is and applications
and benefits the communities can achieve from the LiDAR deliverables.
The workshop educated the attendees on the project specifications
of which LiDAR was a focal point. VARGIS described the LiDAR QA/QC
process to explain how a faster delivery of data was achieved.
In addition to the delivery of 2 foot contours VARGIS explained
and demonstrated several applications ranging from simulated flood
mapping, change detection, and emergency response capabilities.
In addition to applications, VARGIS provided a Case Study on the
City of Indianapolis Urban LiDAR experience.
The LiDAR workshop attendees included Montgomery County, the City
of Radford, the Towns of Blacksburg and Christiansburg, as well
as Virginia Tech, the Center for Geographic Information Technologies,
and the State of Virginia. According to Bob Pearsall, GIS Manager
for Montgomery County, “it enlightened the wide range of
possibilities available to us to maximize our utilization of the
data in ways yet unimagined”.
