Marin County (CA) Chooses VARGIS for
Digital Mapping Products, Services

Sterling, VA, June 16, 2004 –VARGIS LLC a technology leading worldwide mapping and GIS company was selected by the Marin Telecommunications Agency to provide countywide digital mapping products and services for Marin County, California. The Marin Telecommunications Agency, formed in 1998, is a consortium of cities and towns including: Mill Valley, Sausalito, Belvedere, Tiburon, Larkspur, Corte Madera, Fairfax, San Anselmo, San Rafael, and the County of Marin. Michael Smith, Technical Director for the Marin County project states, "VARGIS has been exceptional on this project. They really made an outstanding effort to get Marin Telecommunications the highest quality color orthophotography for both urban and rural areas".

VARGIS is providing to Marin Telecommunications a multi-resolution photogrammetric solution to meet the mapping needs for the urban and rural areas of the County. Delivery is scheduled for fall of 2004. Digital aerial orthophotography and topographic services are being acquired to support the Agency’s imagery and GIS update for the County and its member cities. Deliverables for the urban area are 4-inch resolution natural color orthophotography at 1"=100’ map scale with 2-foot interval contours. The rural areas of the County will receive 1-foot resolution natural color orthophotography at 1"=700’ map scale with 10-foot interval contours. To properly service the varied software platforms within the consortium, orthophotography will be delivered in both GeoTiff and MrSID format.
