VARGIS Selected by the Maryland-National
Capital Park and Planning Commission for Digital Orthophoto Mapping
and Planimetric Update
Sterling, VA, May, 2005 – VARGIS, LLC was
selected by the Maryland National Capital Park & Planning Commission
(M-NCPPC) to provide digital orthophoto mapping & planimetric
updates for Prince George’s County. The County’s last
update occurred in 2000, and to ensure that the existing GIS databases
reflect changes in the landscape, the County decided to embark
on this new project for Spring 2005.
For the entire geographic area, approximately 485 square miles,
the scope of work includes the acquisition of color aerial photography,
production of digital orthophotography, and completion of planimetric
update mapping of selected layers. The data requested by the County
will be used for obtaining impervious surfaces, land use land cover,
and for various economic development initiatives. Final deliverables
consist of 6” pixel color digital orthophotos and planimetric
updates.
