VARGIS Awarded Statewide Centerline
Project by Commonwealth of Virginia
Herndon, VA., May, 2003 VARGIS, LLC has been
awarded a contract to produce a road centerline vector base map
for the Commonwealth of Virginia. The centerlines will support the
creation of an accurate statewide basemap for enhanced 911 response.
This contract is an extension of the groundbreaking Statewide mapping
effort by the Commonwealth called the Virginia Base Mapping Program
(VBMP) and is funded by the Virginia E911 Wireless Services Board.
VARGIS will use the VBMP ortho imagery, previously produced by VARGIS,
as well as existing county and state vector files to create the
new layer. The project entails new digitizing as well as conflation
with current, high accuracy road centerlines. The project is scheduled
for completion in December 2003.
VARGIS will collect all paved and unpaved roads that are intended
for use by motorized vehicles and are clearly identifiable on the
VBMP orthophotography. This includes all trails, identifiable driveways
200 feet or longer, and divided highway crossovers. The end product
will be seamless across jurisdictional boundaries and across the
state. Directionality and other key information will be contained
in the associated database.
VARGIS is an industry leader in managing the acquisition, quality
assurance and delivery of digital orthophotography and geospatial
